Getting Involved Events
Chaucer House Fun Day 2013
St Helier Festival 2013
Street Athletics 2013
On Wednesday 31st July, Peterborough Road in Carshalton was closed for the day so that youths and children under the age of 20 could take part in a Street Athletics event.
Street Athletics is a series of community focussed events which are held nationally and run by Nuff Respect. This event was supported by Sutton Housing Partnership’s contractors Mulalley’ and Lakehouse, as well as Sport for Social Change Network.
Youths attending took part in a 60 metre sprint along the road racing against others in their age category. All participants were given a ‘Street Athletics’ T-Shirt, dog tag and were given a race number. The numbers were then pinned to their T-shirts and marshals which included Sutton Housing Partnership staff took the timings of the children who came first, second, third etc.
The highlight of the day were the special guests who attended - Mark Lewis Francis MBE (Former 4x100m Olympic champion and European & Commonwealth Silver Medallist) and Tony Jarrett (Former 110m Commonwealth Champion & World Championship Silver Medallist). They were fantastic with the crowd, cheering on the runners and giving lots of encouragement. They were more than happy to pose for photographs and chat to all who attended.
The winners of the age categories have been invited to attend the National Finals which are held in Manchester on 31st August. Good luck to all those attending! SHP would also like to thank the residents of Peterborough Road for their patience while the road was closed
