A new Disability Forum has been launched by Sutton Housing Partnership.
The first meeting was held on 21st March 2011 at the Salvation Army Centre in Sutton and was attended by residents, Councillors, staff from LBS and SHP and a representative from SCILL.
The Forum was a recommendation from the Aids and Adaptations Service Review, which was carried out by SHP last year.
The event featured a presentation from Neil Johnson (Senior Project Manager at SHP) updating the Forum about the improvements made to the Aids and Adaptations service.
Residents were invited to highlight how services they receive in their homes, such as aids and adaptations and major works, could be delivered in ways to best suit their individual needs.
The Forum has agreed to meet twice a year and this was supported by the Lead Councillor for Housing, Jayne McCoy and Councillor Dave Callaghan.
The Forum will also work closely with other local agencies such as SCILL, the Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning and the Council's Occupational Health Team to ensure the services provided will be delivered efficiently and meet peoples' individual needs.
Feedback from residents attending was that it was a good opportunity to find out if their involvement had made a difference.
The outcomes from the Forum include:
-
A commitment from Sutton Housing Partnership to promote the interests of all its disabled residents, help foster good relations between our disabled residents and with the wider community and help Partners to communicate effectively with these residents
-
Representation of disabled residents' views in all aspects of SHP's services, particularly the Aids and Adaptations service, day-to-day repairs and housing management
-
Monitoring the overall resident satisfaction of SHP's disabled residents and to work with teams to continually improve service for its disabled residents
-
People with disabilities being given the opportunity to influence housing services and the way they are delivered to SHP's disabled tenants in the borough.
