Market with a difference heads to Sutton

Date(s)
Wednesday 13th October 2010
Description

A market with a difference is being held in Sutton

Packed full of information and advice, it will showcase what activities and support are available for adults in the borough to meet their social care needs.

More than 50 providers will be showing off their wares at the free event – which is being held at the Salvation Army on Benhill Avenue on Wednesday 13 October, from 1pm to 4.30pm.

The market is divided into three areas:

* The red room – where exhibitors such as Age Concern, Shopmobility, Viridian Housing, Sutton Carers Centre and Sutton Council’s adult social services, will be on hand to talk about personal budgets, housing, care facilities and getting around

* The blue room – where people can find out about “health and wellbeing” options from organisations such as Active Lifestyles, EcoLocal and GLL. The groups will give details of everything from new hobbies and skills people can learn, social activities and groups they can join and help going back to work

* And the green room – the “help at home/staying safe” area, where visitors can find out about services, technology and advice to help them stay in their own homes for longer and safer

Cllr Colin Stears, Sutton Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Services and Health, said: “This is a great chance for people to discover the range of services and activities available in Sutton. It’s a real opportunity to mingle, ask questions and feedback to providers and staff what services, support and activities they would like to see available in the community for the future."

“Through our Transforming Lives programme, adult residents in Sutton who are eligible to receive social care will be able to choose who they buy their social care support from. This will allow them to have more choice and control over their care and really find the support and activities that are right for them."

Whether you receive social care funding, care for someone or fund your own care this is a great opportunity to find out more about what is on offer in the London Borough of Sutton and beyond.
