This winter we’ve prepared for the worst weather with additional supplies of rock salt. During our customer survey this year, 61% of respondents identified unattended icy paths as the most common problem on their estate or block – higher than any other estate problem. In response, all our caretaking teams will make salting of paths their top priority during periods of icy weather. We strengthened our capacity to distribute salt or grit last year by adding to our grit bin stock on site. It total we have 44 grit bins or stores on our estates, to stock in advance of any icy conditions. We cannot guarantee all hard surfaces will be treated at all times owing to limits on resourcing. However, our priority is to treat main paths from the exit of buildings to the main road and footpaths on sloped surfaces. We are unable to provide assistance salting or clearing roadways as residents are advised not to drive during icy conditions. On open balconies and stairs, we will aim to treat walkways with salt rather than grit to avoid the build up of mess once icy conditions recede. We hope these measures address concerns about icy footpaths this winter in the interests of safety for our residents
