Is your next career move into a management or leadership role? Would you benefit from development in leadership, performance management, managing risk, finance and customer care? If the answer is YES then joining the Sutton Housing Partnership Board may be just what you need.

By way of background, Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP) is a company set up at arms-length by the Council in 2006 to manage its housing stock. As an independent company we have our own Board of directors, but the Council controls the company through nominations onto the Board and through a management agreement with SHP.

Since our inception we have had an intense programme to improve services to a point where the Council could access £112.5m of government funding to upgrade the housing stock to the Decent Homes standard. In January 2010 the Audit Commission announced that SHP had met the required standard and the first tranche of funding of £5m will be drawn down in the current financial year. Our focus remains on continuing to raise levels of service and delivering major works to an increasing number of residents. As part of this we will continue to engage residents in both traditional and more innovative methods.

The Board’s central role is to direct and control SHP work: that is, to determine strategic direction and policies and to establish and oversee control and risk management frameworks that will ensure that the organisation achieves its aims and objectives. The Board of Directors is made up of 4 members elected by residents, 4 nominated by the Council (our shareholder) and 4 independent members from within the community. We were due to have an election process during August 2010 but unfortunately, even though we have actively promoted, encouraged and held a few Board networking events to try and recruit residents to join our Board, we have not been successful in recruiting any resident candidates to stand for nomination during the election.  Therefore we won't be having a Board election this year as scheduled, but will continue to actively recruit residents to become members of our Board.
