Collingwood residents are celebrating after having a community playground restored on their estate.
For the past three years local people from the Residents Association have been working with Councillor’s to get the playground reinstated after the old equipment was removed over 20 years ago.
The playground was planned with input from residents and is specifically designed for the under eight’s. Key play and development equipment as chosen by families on the estate has been installed such as Talking Tubes, a Seesaw and a Rotating Dish.
Funding of £25k for the playground was awarded through the Local Area Committee with an extra £5k funding needed being given from Sutton Housing Partnership who manage the council homes on the estate.
A grand opening was held last Friday, where the Mayor of Sutton Margaret Court officially opened the new play ground, also attending for the opening local councillors Janet Lowne and Marlene Heron who supported the playground funding bid and helped bring the playground back to life.
Local Councillor Marlene Heron said: "There is a real need in the community. The younger kids on the estate needed somewhere to play especially as many of them are living in flats,” and she added “It's important for the children to have free entertainment and for mums to be able to see where their kids are playing. Having a play area also brings a sense of community to the area"
