Free Parking For Royal Wedding

Sutton Council is offering free on-street parking on the day of the Royal Wedding.

To help people get to street parties and visit friends and family to join in the celebrations it will be free to park in both permit and pay and display bays in the borough on 29 April.

This will also be helpful to residents popping to the shops to pick up supplies for their parties.

Cllr Simon Wales, Executive Member for Communities, Transport and the Voluntary Sector, said: “Royal Wedding fever has already broken out in Sutton with 37 street parties booked so far.

“By offering free parking we hope that even more people will be able to join in with local celebrations and it will be easier for residents to visit friends and family across the borough and share in the festivities.

“There is always strong community spirit in Sutton so we expect lots of people to take advantage of the extra day off and come together to celebrate the wedding of the year.”

The offer also extends to all the Easter bank holidays, Easter Sunday, May Day and the Whitsun holiday on 30 May.

The streets will still be kept safe as enforcement will not be relaxed to those parking dangerously; such as on double yellow lines, in spaces reserved for the disabled, in loading bays, in front of dropped kerbs or on the pavements.

Multi-storey car parks are not included in the offer.
