Young people have taken part in a ‘Ground Force’ style revamp of a public garden in their Easter holidays.
The sensory garden at Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning (SCILL) has been given a boost after five teenage volunteers offered to give up a day of their holidays to rejuvenate it.
The work included replanting flower beds with vegetable seedlings, herbs, shrubs and annuals, painting and decorating the pergola, weeding and filling hanging baskets.
Cllr Dave Callaghan, Executive Member for Children, Families and Youth Services at Sutton Council, said: “It’s great to see young people giving up their time to help others in their community.
“This was also an opportunity for them to learn new skills while having fun and just one of a range of activities arranged for the Easter holidays.”
The gardening day was part of Sutton Youth Service’s Easter activity programme.
Volunteers from Sutton Housing Partnership and building firm Apollo were on hand to provide guidance as well as donating plants for the project.
