The Wait is Over for Sutton's Tenants
Sutton Housing Partnership is preparing to deliver much needed improvement work to council homes following a cash boost from the government.
The governments' Homes and Communities agency announced on the 17th February 2011 that Sutton Council will receive £8m next year to fund improvement work to council homes as part of an overall award of £64m over the next four years.
The amount of £64m although less than what was originally bid for, means that council tenants and leaseholders can receive improvements after a long wait over the uncertainty of funding. The money will be used to replace and modernise outdated kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors to meet the governments’ Decent Homes standard.
This means that with additional investments from the Council’s budget of £500,000 and other funding, a total of £12m will be devoted to transforming homes for our customers who have been waiting patiently for the much needed improvements.
Here is how the funding will be allocated over the next five years:
2011/12 - £8 million
2012/13 - £14 million
2013/14 - £14 million
2014/15 - £26.4 million
(Funding earmarked for the last two years has not yet been guaranteed)
There will be more news about the Decent Homes Improvement Programme in our next edition of Homefront due out in early March.
