BEKO fridge/ freezer appliances warning

London Fire Brigade are asking people to check if their Beko fridge/ freezer is a fire risk, as they estimate there have already been 20 fires in London which can be attributed to faulty appliances.

If you own a Beko fridge/ freezer that was made between January 2000 and October 2006, please click on the link below to check if your appliance is affected.

The problem with the equipment, occurs when water gets in to the defrost time switch, which can lead to an electrical malfunction resulting in plastic components and other highly flammable insulation inside the appliance catching fire.

Which? magazine has provided a page of useful information, giving details of the types of appliances concerned, what the risks are, and also how to identify whether your appliance is one of those affected.
