Sutton residents are being invited to enter suggestions for individuals, groups or organisations for an award that recognises the Big Society in action.
The Big Society Awards were launched last year by Prime Minister David Cameron to celebrate the fantastic work already being carried out in neighbourhoods across the country and to inspire many more people to get involved in their communities.
If you know of an initiative that displays any one of the three principles of promoting social action, empowering communities or opening up public services, it could be nominated for the latest round of the honours.
Sutton Council Leader, Cllr Sean Brennan, said: “Sutton has already been awarded Big Society vanguard status in recognition of all the great community action and participation that goes on locally.
“Now we have the opportunity to gain further recognition for our work, so I encourage you to all take advantage of this valuable opportunity”
Individuals, businesses, charities, community groups and other organisations are all eligible if they illustrate the Big Society in action.
These may be:
-
People or groups who are bringing their community together and helping to give people more power to take decisions and shape their area
-
People who are transforming our public services, staff setting up their own cooperatives, or new providers or frontline staff finding innovative ways to deliver better services to the public
-
Or people who are giving their time and money to help others, the unsung heroes changing lives in our communities.
Just send the name of your nomination with a short description of what they do to bigsociety@sutton.gov.uk| by 15 July and from your entries Sutton will be selecting the two that most embody the Big Society to nominate with vanguard backing.
