People with disabilities are being given the opportunity to influence housing services and the way they are delivered to council tenants in the borough.
A new Disability Forum launched this week by Sutton Housing Partnership invited residents to highlight how services they receive in their homes, such as adaptations and major works, could be delivered in ways to best suit their individual needs.
One resident who attended , Mrs Jacqueline Trower said: “I am finding the forum very interesting and I think it’s a good way for residents to meet each other and find out what services we are entitled to. I have been able to talk about my experiences and have already given SHP some feedback about their delivery of services”.
The forum will also work closely with other local agencies such as SCILL, the Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning and the councils’ Occupational Health Team to ensure the services provided will be delivered efficiently and to meet peoples’ individual needs.
Cllr Jayne McCoy, Sutton Council’s Executive Member for Planning, Economic Development and Housing , said: “This forum gives people with disabilities a chance to be actively involved in influencing the services they receive from SHP. By joining up with other local agencies we will be able to identify where improvements can be made that will really help people ’s quality of life in their homes .”
The Forum will meet again in September, it is hoped that residents will provide their point of view and lead the discussion. If you are interested in joining and currently live in Sutton Housing Partnership accommodation, call 0800 195 5552 to find out more.
