A new recycling and rubbish collection service is starting in April 2017.
To help us all recycle more and waste less Sutton Council is making changes to the way our bins are collected.
The new service will help:
- increase recycling, with the new service expected to increase recycling to over 40% within 12 months
- waste less, with food waste collections available to most households we can now turn waste food into energy and compost
- save money, with the the new service helping the Council save £10.3 million of taxpayers’ money over the eight year contract period to help them protect other vital services.
If you live in a flat you will soon receive a weekly food waste collection and may even have already have received the new containers you need to use the service. Recycling will be collected every week or as often as is needed. Rubbish will also continue to be collected every week.
If you live in a house you will also soon receive a weekly food waste service and should have received the new containers you need. Paper and card will be collected every two weeks, with plastics, glass, cans and cartons collected the alternate two weeks. You will still receive a rubbish collection every two weeks.
