Decent Homes Programme

As you know the government recently announced their decision to delay our Decent Homes programme to build houses elsewhere in the country. This decision means that following a successful inspection our funding could be delayed until April 2011.

Everyone in the borough has been fighting hard to try and over-turn this decision and recently along with representatives from the London Borough of Sutton, we met Sir Bob Kerslake the Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to explain the impact on Sutton of not receiving our funding. The HCA in turn explained the background of the government’s decision and although we did not come away with any clear outcomes there was some positive news, as the HCA are currently re-looking at their funding commitments to identify allocations for all ALMOs who will shortly get two stars.

We’d all like to say a huge thank to the Sutton Federation of Tenant and Resident Associations, you our residents, local councillors, local MPs and the local and national media for supporting us in our fight against the government’s decision and we hope that we will have some good news to share with you very shortly.
