Residents support Sutton Housing Partnership

Following on from yesterday's announcement from the Government about the delay in the Decent Homes funding, Sutton Housing Partnership has been inundated with support from Sutton residents and members of the Sutton Federation of Tenant & Resident Associations (SFTRA).

Jean Crossby, Chair SFTRA, commented: “I am writing this to express SFTRA's disappointment at the Government on the Decent Homes funding. This is a terrible blow for all tenants in not only Sutton but all over the country. I cannot express how I also feel for everyone at SHP, but please do not feel we are going to lose this battle.

“Tenants all over the country are up in arms over this as we are fighting for our homes. What is important is the Inspection and reaching the 2 stars. SFTRA and all tenants will play their part in this to show our support for SHP and make it clear that we want and welcome our ALMO and that they must release the £112 million pounds we have been waiting to access.

“I am sure you all feel very down and questioning if all your hard work has been worth it. I would just like to say thank you all for all you are doing to get the 2 stars. I also feel confident we are going to reach the 2 stars. This decision has just made it a little harder but we can not let them destroy all you have done to make Sutton council tenants a part of the ALMO and have a say in what we the tenants want. Let us all make sure we all work together, and it probably does mean we lift the bar a little but we must, must get the 2 stars. Then we can fight even harder with the government for OUR money.

“SFTRA have a General meeting on Tuesday at 7pm we will be discussing what or how we are going to fight this, anyone wishing to attend will be very welcome.”
