Decent Homes Latest News
It's been the news that residents and everyone here at Sutton Housing Partnership have been waiting for. We have finally heard more about out funding for future Decent Homes work.
After the general election last year, the new coalition government required us to reapply for funding. Therefore in November we submitted a new bid for £84 million which needed to match a set of much stricter criteria the Government set out.
At the beginning of February we heard the news that Sutton Council has been awarded £62.4 million. Over the next four years this money will be used to invest in council homes and tackle the backlog of improvements needed.
Although the amount is less than the £84 million we had bid for, it means that we can now begin to deliver improvements after a long wait over the uncertainty of funding. The money will be used to provide new windows, modernise bathrooms and kitchen and address issues like structural maintenance and repairs on blocks. Residents will be consulted about a revised 4 year works programme.
Sutton’s funding allocation over the next four years is;
Year One 2011/12 £ 8.00 million
Year Two 2012/13 £14.00 million
Year Three 2013/14 £14.00 million*
Year Four 2014/15 £26.42 million*
*Years 3 and 4 are not guaranteed and subject to review
