Decent Homes News
It's was the news that residents and everyone here at Sutton Housing Partnership had been waiting for. We finally heard more about our funding for future Decent Homes work.
After the general election in 2010, the new coalition government required us to reapply for funding. Therefore in November 2010 we submitted a new bid for £84 million which needed to match a set of much stricter criteria the Government set out.
At the beginning of February 2011 we heard the news that Sutton Council had been awarded £62.4 million. Over the next four years this money would be used to invest in council homes and tackle the backlog of improvements needed.
Although the amount was less than the £84 million we had bid for, it meant that we could now begin to deliver improvements after a long wait over the uncertainty of funding. The money is being used to provide new windows, modernise bathrooms and kitchen and address issues like structural maintenance and repairs on blocks. Residents will be consulted about a revised 4 year works programme.
Sutton’s funding allocation over the four years is;
Year One 2011/12 £ 8.00 million
Year Two 2012/13 £14.00 million
Year Three 2013/14 £14.00 million
Year Four 2014/15 £26.42 million
