Charter Mark Logo
Charter Mark Award
 
This is an award that is issued by the cabinet office to recognise excellence in the provision of public services. From obtaining this award it shows that the public service we provide is among the best in the country
 
It is a positive force for driving through change and customer service improvement. We gained the Charter Mark in December 2002 and were successfully reassessed in November 2005 gaining the Charter Mark in December 2004.
 
To gain the Charter Mark Award an organisation must demonstrate it meets six criterion set by the Government:
 
  • Set standards and perform well
  • Actively engage with your customers, partners and staff
  • Be fair and accessible to everyone and promote choice
  • Continuously develop and improve
  • Use resources effectively and imaginatively
  • Contribute to improving opportunities and quality of life in the communities you serve

CSHS Code of Practice for Sheltered Housing
 
The Code of Practice has ten standards, which must be met in order to achieve accreditation, these include having trained and supported staff, confidentiality, independence and empowerment. There must be evidence of clear policies and procedures as well as evidence of how these are put into practice on a day to day basis by front line staff.
 
Sheltered Housing Manager Lesley Godden said "The accreditation is very important to us - having an independent assessment which concludes that our service is provided in accordance with best practice is yet another step towards achieving our vision of building an excellent sheltered housing and community support service for older people living in Sutton".
 
Achieving accreditation required:
 
  • The submission of a portfolio of evidence, containing contributions from every member of the team
  • Telephone and face-to-face interviews with Sheltered Housing Officers and Community Wardens
  • A meeting with residents at one of the schemes chosen by the assessor
  • A meeting with members of the working group, which worked on gathering and presenting our evidence
