The Tenants Gardening Maintenance Scheme is a service provided by the Volunteer Centre Sutton in partnership with the Council to assist our elderly and less able tenants maintain their gardens.
Volunteer Centre Sutton has provided the current scheme since April 2003. All properties accepted onto the scheme receive a visit every 4 –5 weeks during April to September and will get the grass and hedges cut to the front and rear gardens if necessary.
During 2005 the gardening service was provided to 300 tenants who benefited from over 3,200 grass / hedge cuts. In addition, there are 30 tenants on the waiting list who received one visit during the winter to help keep their gardens under control.
In order to be considered for the scheme tenants must meet all the following criteria
Be a council tenant and have no ‘right to buy’ application
Be 75 years of age or over, or registered disabled with London Borough of Sutton
Be in receipt of Housing Benefit
Have no-one under the age of 75 living at the property
