What is an ALMO?
ALMO means Arms length management organisation. It is set up and owned by the Council to manage council properties. The same staff who manage your housing will run the new ALMO. A board of 12 people including three tenants and a leaseholder, will oversee the new organisation.
Have other council’s set up ALMO’s?
Yes – The number of council properties set up to be managed by ALMO’s is growing rapidly. ALMO’s have the highest satisfaction rates – better than council’s and housing associations.
Will we lose the right to buy?
No – You will keep the right to buy. Tenancy and leasehold conditions will not change by creating an ALMO and you will keep all your existing rights.
Are there benefits for leaseholders?
Yes! – the ALMO means more funds for works to the outsides of properties such as new roofs and windows where needed. Importantly works to leasehold properties will only be carried out if needed. The works will help protect leaseholders investment. Leaseholders will also be represented on the ALMO board of management.
