Sutton Housing Partnership - Gas - The Gas Safety Check

To carry out the safety check, we need to enter your dwelling. We know this is not always convenient for you, so we go to great lengths to arrange an appointment with you.

	What We Will Do	We May Do This As Well!
First Letter	Our gas servicing contractor writes to you two months before your safety check is due. You will be entered into their Prize Draw if your check is done at this stage!!!!!	The contractor will also attempt to contact you by phone, will leave calling cards and call personally at your dwelling during this period.
Second Letter	They write to you a second time four weeks later.
Third Letter	SHP will write to you, warning that we will be forced to take legal action against you, if you don’t let us into your dwelling.	In addition to the above, SHP will also attempt to contact you during this period. We will also stick notices on your door. We will investigate other ways of getting hold of you, in case there are difficulties.
Legal Action	Legal action will start against you, which will mean entering your dwelling by force if necessary. You will now be liable for all costs incurred by us (this is usually over £500!).
At any stage in the above process, once this check has been carried out, the above process will stop and no further action will be taken (unless costs for legal action have been granted against you). Remember – all we are trying to do is carry out a Gas Safety Check on the gas appliances in your property. This is to protect you and your family. Smith & Byford 0800 389 0867
