ALMO: Arms Length Management Organisation
Almo stands for ‘Arms Length Management Organisation’. An Almo is one of the options the government says a council must take if it can’t raise the cash it needs to get all its homes to the ‘decent homes standard’. The other options are to transfer homes to a brand new landlord, or to bring in a private finance partnership to run the housing.

An Almo is a new, not-for-profit organisation run by an unpaid board of directors that includes councilors and tenant representatives. It takes over running the housing service day-to-day: things like ordering repairs and collecting rent. And it gets extra cash to spend on improvements if it performs well. The council continues to own the homes; tenants stay as council tenants and keep all their legal rights.

ASB: Anti Social Behaviour
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) includes a variety of behaviour covering a whole complex of selfish and unacceptable activity that can blight the quality of community life.

ASBO:
Introduced under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, this is a community-based order to restrain anti-social behaviour.  A breach of the order is a criminal offence.  Interim ASBO's can be sought and the police can apply for an ASBO on conviction for an offence involving anti-social behaviour.

BSP: Borough spending Plan
A Borough Spending Plan describes the boroughs priorities and spending programme.

Noise Abatement Notice
If an officer of the local authority, on visiting, obtains evidence that a statutory nuisance is occurring or likely to occur or recur then Environmental Health can serve what is called a noise abatement notice. A statutory nuisance is defined in the EPA as - "noise emitted from premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance."
There is no set level at which noise becomes a statutory nuisance and an assessment will take into account a number of factors including, the locality, the time of day or night, and the frequency and duration of the noise complained of. A noise abatement notice is usually served on the person causing the nuisance and it will prohibit that person from causing any further noise nuisance. Failure to comply with a noise abatement notice can lead to a person being prosecuted and the noise producing equipment, e.g. stereo system, being seized.
