The safety of Sutton Housing Partnership residents’ is a priority and we understand that there may be concerns and questions as more information about the incident unfolds.


We would like to reassure residents that the fire arrangements for our blocks are designed in compliance with current building regulations. Information is provided in each building on what to do in the event of a fire and residents are asked to familiarise themselves with the details specific to their building and follow the directions given. Our Fire Safety Information page also contains some essential information on what to do in the event of a fire.


We have a number of safety measures in place appropriate to the type of block concerned, many of which go beyond the legal requirements. These include;

  • A comprehensive professionally undertaken fire risk assessment programme with action plans to remedy any issues.
  • Regular fire inspections and estate inspections
  • Emergency lighting in communal areas
  • Fire alarms in the communal areas of many larger blocks


We work in partnership with the London Fire Brigade and periodically undertake joint property inspections with them. We are confident that our buildings are safe and we will be undertaking additional inspections over and above those scheduled in the coming weeks.

Keeping Communal Areas Clear

SHP undertake regular inspections and have a Fire Safety in Communal Areas Policy. This policy sets out the need for all residents to ensure communal areas are kept clear and free from items which may hinder anyone getting in and out of the block in the event of an emergency.
