Nominations now open for Sutton’s Community Awards 2020

Sutton Community Awards 2020 will celebrate the people who make Sutton a great place to live, work and bring up a family and who have gone above and beyond in the face of COVID-19.

Each year, Sutton's Community Awards recognise remarkable individuals and groups in Sutton. This year takes on an even more special theme of celebration and commemoration in light of the challenges faced due to COVID-19.

The awards are open to everyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers in the borough. Awards will be given out in eight categories that cover outstanding individuals, volunteers, neighbours and community groups.

Councillor Trish Fivey, Mayor of Sutton said;

“Under such unprecedented circumstances, it is so valuable to celebrate the efforts of people and organisations who have gone the extra mile over the last year. It is fantastic to see the Council, Sutton Housing Partnership, Volunteer Centre Sutton and Community Action Sutton come together to celebrate and commemorate this year. I am excited to see and hear some powerful stories and would encourage as many people as possible to get involved and nominate.”

Alison Navarro, Chief Executive of Community Action Sutton said;

“These awards provide an opportunity for Sutton to reflect on the difference that the local voluntary and community sector in Sutton makes to the lives of local people. This year more than ever, the essential role that the voluntary and community sector plays in listening to the challenges that local people face and working with them to provide the support needed will be recognised and celebrated.”

Anita Maullin, Chief Executive of Volunteer Centre Sutton said;

"We're delighted to be involved in this event for the 2nd year running, particularly in a year when volunteering has played such a big part in the response to Covid-19. These awards will truly reflect how Sutton's community has come together."

Steve Tucker, Managing Director of Sutton Housing Partnership said;

“During this year of uncertainty and new challenges, the role of the wider community going above and beyond has become more important than ever. Sutton Housing Partnership is delighted to support the Community Awards 2020 and I look forward to hearing inspiring stories.”
