Free school holiday food vouchers for families in need

Children who qualify for free school meals in Sutton will receive food vouchers throughout the whole of the summer holidays.

Sutton Council's Housing, Economy and Business Committee meeting approved funding of £270,000 on 7 July to add to the £720,000 funding provided by central government.

This means that Sutton families who qualify for free school meals will be provided with food vouchers this summer and for all school holidays up to, and including, February half-term.

Schools will distribute the vouchers - worth £90 per child this summer - to eligible pupils/families by Friday 22 July. Those vouchers can be redeemed at Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Aldi,  Morrisons, and Iceland.

Steve Tucker, Managing Director, Sutton Housing Partnership, said:

“The school holidays can be such a challenging time for many low-income families. So it's great to hear that Sutton Housing Partnership families who qualify for free school meals will be able to access these food vouchers, which will make such a huge difference during the current cost of living crisis.”

Some families who are eligible for a food voucher but whose children do not currently attend a school (i.e. pre-school children or home educated), will need to apply for a food voucher prior to each school holiday period

Children who receive free schools can also sign up to the Holiday Activities and Food Programme which provides free holiday-enriching and physical activities with nutritious meals for children and young people (aged Reception to Year 11).
