Age Uk Digital Help Sessions

Age UK's Digital inclusion programme aims to promote the benefits of being online, provide people with confidence and skills to be able to use devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and even Amazon speakers to enable people to get the most out of using online services.

Skills Sessions

Age UK's skills sessions aim to provide you the tools and knowledge to enable you to feel comfortable using your device to do a range of practical tasks online such as:

  • Online Shopping
  • Facetime, emails, phone calls and texts
  • Learning about how to be safe online
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Teams, Skype, Zoom
  • Setting up Online banking, GP appointments, NHS app
  • Booking tickets for theatres & cinemas etc.
  • Setting virtual assistants ('Alexa', 'Siri', etc.) to remind to take medications, go to appointments etc.

What skills sessions are on offer?

121 support
At home or in the community, an Age UK digital champion will teach basic skills required to get the most out of using a device online. Working with a member of the team, they will help you to achieve your digital goals.

Group sessions
In a community setting, Age UK offers small group sessions based on similar goals. Each week using your digital diary you will learn the required skills to send emails/connect to video calls/ importance of online safety and much more. These groups will run in cohorts for 6-8 weeks following a programme with handouts and lots of resources available.

Digital Drop ins
If you have a device and have a query about an app or how to set something up, a drop in session offers support from one of Age UK's Digital Champions to problem solve with you. They can also provide you with how to guides that you can keep for future reference.

Don’t have a device? Use Age UK's device loan scheme If you are interested in using technology, but don’t have a device, Age UK has smart phones/ tablets/ laptops and speakers available on loan so you can attend their group sessions or have 121 support using a device. They can also offer support to find you a suitable device to purchase.
