Unveiling of Anne Boleyn Sculpture

Beloved Anne Boleyn sculpture returns to her rightful place in Carshalton
Carshalton has welcomed back a familiar face as the vibrant sculpture of Anne Boleyn has been reinstated back to her prominent position overlooking Anne Boleyn’s Well and the Carshalton Ponds. After more than a decade away, the iconic artwork, originally created by late sculptor Dennis Huntley, is now once again gracing the junction of North Street, Pound Street, and Church Hill.
Originally commissioned by architects Thompson & Gardner, the statue was installed in Sutton in 1987. Following her removal for restoration some years ago, a quest led by Sutton Housing Partnership, with the enthusiastic support of the local community including Carshalton Artists, Friends of St Nicholas Churchyard and Friends of Carshalton, has resulted in Anne’s triumphant return.
This reinstatement marks one of the final artistic undertakings of Dennis Huntley, who sadly passed away in December 2021 at the age of 93. In his final act of creativity, Dennis personally oversaw the renovation of the award-winning sculpture, updating its colours with a deeper-toned gown, a striking brick red neckline, and elegant gold embossing on the sleeve edges, featuring the letter ‘B’. A generous gesture of Dennis Huntley’s family.
The return of the Anne Boleyn sculpture signifies not only the reinstatement of a significant piece of local art but also the power of community collaboration and the enduring legacy of a talented artist.
Steve Tucker, Chief Executive at Sutton Housing Partnership said: “ The return of Anne Boleyn is a moment of great joy for Sutton Housing Partnership and the community. We are immensely proud to have played a part in bringing this much-loved sculpture back home.”
Jet Maintenance spokesperson said: “As a company we are extremely proud and honored to have been asked to reinstate Anne to her plinth by Sutton Housing Partnership and look forward to the unveiling.”
